The boring bits, in plain English.
Last updated: 4 May 2026
Use Museum Log reasonably and we won't get in your way. Your visits, photos, and reflections belong to you. The app and its design belong to us.
Museum Log is free at launch. Any paid features we add later will be billed by Apple, and refunds will go through Apple too.
We make no promises the app is perfect. Use it at your own risk. Don't try to break it on purpose.
By downloading or using Museum Log (the "app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Who we are
"Museum Log" refers to the application, this website, and the company operating both. We're a small independent publisher based in London, United Kingdom. The legal entity behind the app is identified in the App Store listing.
2. Your account & content
Museum Log doesn't require an account. You sign in with your existing Apple ID — that's it.
Your content is yours. The visits you log, the photos you attach, the reflections you write, the favourite pieces you record, the companions you tag, the ratings you give: all of it remains your intellectual property. We don't claim a licence to use it.
We don't host your content on our servers. It lives on your device and in your private iCloud, as described in our Privacy Policy.
3. Pricing
Museum Log is free to download and use. Logging your visits, photos, exhibitions, companions, ratings, and reflections is free at launch and will remain free.
We may introduce optional paid features in the future — for example, additional themes, fonts, or premium tools. If we do, we'll explain clearly what's included before you buy, and the same privacy and ownership rules in these Terms will continue to apply. Any paid features will be billed by Apple through the App Store.
Refunds
If we do introduce paid features, refunds for App Store purchases will be handled by Apple — we have no ability to issue refunds directly. Apple's process is at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Price changes
If we ever introduce paid features, we'll be transparent about pricing up front. Existing subscribers (if any) will be notified by Apple before any price change takes effect, and given the option to cancel.
4. Licence & ownership
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms and Apple's Standard EULA.
The Museum Log app, including its source code, design, illustrations, fonts, logos, and the marketing site, is owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or reverse-engineer any part of it.
5. Acceptable use
Don't use Museum Log to:
- break the law or facilitate illegal activity;
- infringe someone else's copyright, trademark, or privacy;
- upload photos or content that is unlawful, hateful, or that you don't have rights to;
- attempt to access another user's data (the architecture makes this almost impossible — but please don't try);
- reverse-engineer the app or its CloudKit schema for the purpose of building a competing product;
- scrape the marketing site or the museum atlas at scale.
If you do any of these, we may suspend your access. Repeated or serious abuse may result in permanent termination.
6. Third-party content & museums
The museum names, locations, and basic details visible in the app's atlas come from public sources including Google Places. Trademarks and names of museums and exhibitions remain the property of their respective owners. Museum Log is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any museum, gallery, or exhibition unless we explicitly say so.
7. Disclaimers
Museum Log is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranty that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or that data won't be lost. We rely on Apple's CloudKit for sync; if Apple's services are down, sync may pause.
Specifically, we don't warrant that:
- your data will sync reliably across all your devices at all times;
- photos saved to your Photos library are immediately backed up to iCloud Photos (that's Apple's responsibility);
- museum information in the atlas is accurate or current;
- the app will be compatible with future versions of iOS or with all device models.
Always keep an independent backup of any content that matters to you.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the app is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) £20.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, even if we've been advised of the possibility.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under English law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
9. Termination
You can stop using Museum Log at any time by deleting the app. Active subscriptions continue until the end of the paid period — cancel through Apple if you don't want them to renew.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms. If we do, we'll tell you why where reasonably possible.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top will change, and material changes will be flagged in-app the next time you open Museum Log. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept the new terms; if you don't, please stop using the app.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of England and Wales, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country require otherwise.
